10/10/14 - Don't forget to turn in your Battle of the Books questions! Book 1 and your five questions and responses are due Tuesday, October 14th. More details soon! 9/13/12 - The Scholastic Book Fair begins next week! 5th grade classes will attend for part of a class period on Tuesday or Wednesday. 5/20/12 - There have been more updates to our class website including a new online checkout system for our classroom library! Students can now check out and return books by following the directions on the Classroom Library page. 4/28/12 - Check out our new Student Showcase pages. In the coming weeks, students will be selecting their best work to share on our class website. The Reading Corner has also been updated with a new look and we'll be adding new book reviews soon. 3/10/12 - We're half way through the third Battle of the Books! Book#3 is due Wednesday, March 14th and Book #4 is due Wednesday, March 28th. 8/25/11 - Welcome back everyone! Please feel free to explore our class website for information about 5th grade Language Arts and 6th Grade Reading Lab. I look forward to a fun year of reading and writing with our new students. 2010 - 2011 School Year 5/28/11 - Summer reading information is available at the KCD website now! The site has links to the new graphical and searchable list I created on Reading Rewards. Rising 5th graders must read THREE books from the 5th Grade list for Battle of the Books 1. Rising 6th - 8th graders must read THREE books from their summer reading list. If students are interested in reading something not on the list, they are encouraged to email an MS English teacher for permission. Click here to go to the KCD Summer Reading web page. As an added incentive to read more this summer, students may participate in the "Read 10" Summer Reading Challenge. By reading 10 books over the summer and logging their reading on the Reading Rewards website, they can earn fun rewards and a chance to win a reading-related prize. Students may bring in gently-used independent reading books (not text books) and trade them for other books for summer reading. 5/14/11 - The 6th grade Student-Led Writing Conference will take place THIS Thursday, May 19th at 6 pm. Here is the letter that went home describing the event. Some 5th Graders are piloting a new online reading website for logging their weekly Free Reading. The vocabulary test on ch. 16-19 will be next Wednesday (1/12/11). 1/5/11 - Middle School students who have read Shadow Horse or are interesting in talking to a published middle grades author will have the chance to talk to Alison Hart this Friday via Skype. The video chat will take place during our weekly book club time. 12/14/10 - QUIZ & TEST REMINDER - 5th grade has a grammar test on Lessons 1-4 of Unit 2 tomorrow. (12/15). 11/1/10 - The Book Fair is this week! It is located in the lobby of the new Fine Arts building. Students may shop before school starting at 7:30 am and after school until 4 pm. There are a lot of great books for 5th and 6th grade independent reading! 10/21/10 - QUIZ & TEST REMINDER - 6th grade has a grammar quiz on Lessons 1-3 on Friday (10/22). 5th grade has a unit test on Tuesday (10/26) and a Vocabulary test on ch. 25-40 on Thursday (10/28). 10/06/10 - QUIZ & TEST REMINDER - 6th grade has a grammar quiz on Lessons 1-3 on Thursday (10/7). 5th grade has a vocabulary test on ch. 13-24 on Friday (10/8). 9/30/10 - There is no school on Friday, October 1st or Monday, October 4th due to Fall Break. Enjoy! 9/14/10 - The Edmodo Public pages are now fixed and the homework is viewable for all classes again. Thanks for your patience! 9/12/10 - IMPORTANT HOMEWORK NOTICE: Edmodo is having a technical problem with the Public pages, which is why they currently appear blank. To view the homework, have your child log in to Edmodo directly. Sorry for any inconvenience. Their engineers are working on the issue and should have it fixed soon. 9/12/10 - Friday, September 17th is Retreat Day for the 5th and 6th grades. We will not have regular classes that day and all activities will be on-campus. Both grades will still have their regular PE class though. 9/9/10 - 6th grade students and parents--if your child ordered a book for the MS Book Clubs, some titles are backordered. For tomorrow, everyone should bring a backup book to read in case your ordered copy is not delivered in time. 9/3/10 - Session 1 book clubs begin on Friday, September 10th. Students must bring their book with them on Fridays. If students signed up for the Periodicals Group, they must select a book to read outside of reading period to fulfill the 6th grade independent reading requirements (60 pages per week for their reading journal). 8/29/10 - Fall Conferences are Thursday evening, October 14th and Friday morning, October 15th. Parents may sign up for conferences with your child's advisor on Parent Night. Parents of my advisees should have received an email linking to my online conference sign-up form. 8/21/10 - Middle School Parent Night is Thursday, September 2nd, 7 - 9 PM. 8/11/10 - School starts on August 26th!
